How CMREC’s EDC and IIC Support Student Innovators
Not every engineering student dreams of a corporate job — some want to build something of their own. At CMR Engineering College (CMREC), Hyderabad, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) exist to support exactly those students.
A Platform for Student Ideas
CMREC’s EDC and IIC give students from across branches — CSE, CSE (AI & ML), CSE (Data Science), ECE, EEE, Mechanical, Civil, and IT — a space to explore entrepreneurial thinking alongside their core engineering education.
Encouraging an Innovation Mindset
CMREC’s institutional focus on innovation is reflected in its 5-star rating from the Institution’s Innovation Council and its ARIIA ranking. Recent department-level activity backs this up: the CSE department ran a session on “Entrepreneurship & Innovation as Career Opportunities” on 1 November 2025, giving students direct exposure to startup thinking as part of their coursework calendar.
Events and Activities
Beyond individual department sessions, CMREC has previously hosted dedicated milestones like its Alumni Meet (30 December 2023), where many returning graduates — including founders and early-career professionals — connected with current students. The college also runs an AICTE-sponsored Idea Lab and an IPFC Unit supporting student and faculty research, patents, and intellectual property rights.
Why This Matters for Engineering Students
Even for students who eventually choose traditional placements, the skills built through entrepreneurship exposure — problem-solving, pitching ideas, working under ambiguity — are valuable. These activities complement the technical training students receive across CMREC’s 10-acre Kandlakoya campus, including its newer AI Digital Campus facilities.
Building a Culture of Innovation
By giving students structured opportunities to explore entrepreneurship, CMREC aims to nurture not just job-ready graduates, but also potential job creators.
