Quality of student projects:
The undergraduate students of the department must do their project work during their tenure of study. The project work done either in the college or in the industry; however students are encouraged to do their project work in the college. In the department of Computer Science and Engineering of CMR Engineering College utmost care is taken in the allocation, implementation and documentation of project work The identification, allocation, implementation and documentation process of the project work are described below
A. Identification of Capstone/Mini Project and Allocation of Guides
A notification is issued from the office of the Head of the Department to all the faculty members to submit area of specialization in their work that are culminated into ideas of the project work for the students.
A notification is issued to all the students to submit their interested areas/domains in which they would like to do their project work. After receiving interested areas from the students, the available proposals in the department which are finalized by the project review committee (PRC) are circulated to the students. Also, students are encouraged to do projects in the industry.
The students are divided as groups usually comprising of 3 to 4 students. From the finalized project proposals, the student groups are given the option to select projects of their choice indicating priority of the projects they want to do. The PRC considers all the received requests and allocates the project work to student groups.
Those students who have submitted industry-oriented project proposals have to present an introductory seminar to the project review committee. Based on the quality of the project, project review committee may recommend the group to do the project in the industry
The following figure shows various levels involved in the allocation of the project

Fig: Project Allocation Methodology
Process for Monitoring: The department has developed a systematic procedure to monitor continuously the progress of student’s projects. After receiving titles from the students along with reference papers, the committee accepts the abstract after peer review. After acceptance of abstract, students have to do projects either internal or external. The project coordinator and internal guide (supervisor) monitor the progress of the project continuously by letting students to give project reviews. The project review committee conducts four reviews during the project period and identifies the limitations, need for skill etc. and helps them to complete their project within allocated time.
Process for Evaluation: The mini project shall be submitted in a report form and presented before the committee. The evaluation of mini Project shall be made at the end of Program. The committee consists of an external examiner, Head of the Department, supervisor of the mini project and a senior faculty member of the department. The internal evaluation shall be based on review presentations given by each student on the mini Project.
Process to Asses the Individual and Team Performance: The individual and team performance is evaluated by the PRC with the internal reviews and at the end of the semester the external examiner evaluates the individual and team performance of the students. The performance of the students is evaluated based on project rubrics.
Type and Relevance of the Projects and their Contribution towards Attainment of POs & PSOs: The relevance of the projects is decided based on the domain and type (product, application, research) and their contribution towards attainment of POs are measured

Quality of Completed
Projects / Working Prototype: The PRC decides the quality of student
projects based on the factors like ethics, environment, complexity, and
standards of the project. From the list of projects, best projects are awarded.
The projects are divided into three categories based on the rubrics shown in
the table.
Project Classification:
All projects carried
out by the students are categorized on the basis of types of projects such as
application based projects, products based, research based and review
based.
