MENTORING SYSTEM

As a role model, a mentor helps other students find success in college. The mentor is there to answer questions, remind students of their obligations, assist in finding campus resources or staff assistance, and provide encouragement and motivation to new students. Faculties who mentor students are the lodestone in higher education. True mentorship is about more than simply making students feel cared about and supported. Strong evidence suggests it involves challenging students and making them work hard, too.
Mentoring Tips and Resources
1. Set expectations: Support, yet challenge, your mentees.
2. Be a positive role model.
3. Be genuinely interested in your mentee as an individual.
4. Share your experiences and insights.
5. Ask questions.
6. Act as a sounding board.
7. Provide helpful feedback.
8. Acknowledge achievements.
A good mentor possesses the following qualities:
1. Willingness to share skills, knowledge, and expertise. .
2. Demonstrates a positive attitude and acts as a positive role model.
3. Takes a personal interest in the mentoring relationship.
4. Exhibits enthusiasm in the field.
5. Values ongoing learning and growth in the field.
Mentors serve as a thought partner for students on their academic journey and help empower students to become autonomous learners and agents of their own change. They express understanding of students’ aspirations and fears, and support their success by acting as an advocate for students’ best interests
