PEDAGOGICAL INITIATIVES

 

The use of modern multi-media teaching aids like LCD projectors, Internet enabled computer systems are usually employed in classroom instructions as well as other student learning experiences. The students are also encouraged to use computer software packages for meaningful analysis of the experimental data collected/acquired by them. Presently digital library and e-learning – resources from National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is also available with the library. The institution also organizes workshops and seminars by eminent professionals in their respective areas in which the student community and faculty community actively participate to reap their benefits.

ICT Usage : The class room teaching adopted in the department involves many methods along with chalk and board teaching. Every faculty member extensively uses the ICT to deliver the lectures in an effective manner. The following mentioned ICT methods are implemented.
a) Power point presentations.
b) Video lectures.
c) Digital library resources.
d) Online Technology Classes

a) Power point presentations: PPT’s are presented in the class room as per the need of course like explanation of topic with difficult diagrams which will take more time to draw, if topic requires 3-D diagrams and to show some realistic situations with diagrams.

b) Video lectures: Video lectures are proposed to grab a student’s attention, motivate them to learn when a highly realistic depiction of reality is important , We make use of NPTEL videos and the library e-repository which has books and hand written notes for the courses will be displayed when it is in need and also we access to IEEE journals to explain the courses for understanding the problems following implementations.

c) Digital library resources: Student can use digital library facility in our college which has 3 Tera Byte capacity and students can access through internet for various video lectures, e- books, journals etc.

d) Online Technology Classes: Spoken Tutorial is a magical Audio Video teaching tool promoting Information Technology (IT) enabled learning. It provides a unique way to train Students and Teachers on various useful topics. The opportunity to network with premier institutions is utilized through this method.

Collaborative Learning: The students are divided into different groups each with almost three or four numbers to encourage collaborative learning the following activities are designed and assigned to groups.
a) Student seminars.
b) Hobby projects.

a) Student Seminars: A host of interactive seminars are conducted by the department to complement core syllabi. The student groups are asked to select their topic of interest and guided by the respective course faculty to deliver the seminar through power point presentation. The students have to refer to books, journals to incorporate latest development s in that area. This group activity will help them through collaborative learning.

b) Hobby projects: Some student groups are recommended for the hobby project on their own interest. Hobby projects are to be executed related to the laboratory topics. The lab class teacher shall guide those students who are doing their hobby projects.

Similarly, these Principles will lead in different ways of Challenging and supporting students to develop deep levels of thinking like Reasoning and problem solving. There are, however, generic aspects as well as subject-specific elements of the different ways of reasoning and thinking represented by different learning areas. The Principles provide an opportunity for teachers working in different traditions to develop a common language through which they can explore what is common and distinctive about particular learning areas.

Methodologies to support weak students and encourage bright students
Weak and Bright students:

The students those who have a just pass class or failed more than 40 to 50 percent of their subjects in the previous semester, These students were generally believed that they have not attended the classes regularly.

The faculty is identified for conducting the Remedial Classes for a course must be , a senior faculty member with experience of teaching the subject. Remedial classes to be conducted as per schedule . A feedback has to be filled in by the students towards the end of the Remedial Classes for a subject.

Bright students: Bright students are given challenging tasks that require better comprehension skills, analytical powers and practical knowledge. Paper presentation, quiz, Hobby project works related to the syllabus are some such activities. Bright students are provided with additional reference books from the library or from the Department libraries. Incentives are provided by the department to the toppers branch and year wise, at the end of each academic year. An extra coaching is conducted for cracking industry related complex programs, practicing industry professional entrance papers, and an intensive Personality Development Skills classes are conducted
